Fear

Fear

More so than disembodied spirits or the icy, blood-chugging undead, or cracks that creak in the floorboards when all signs of life are still and quiet, I find terror in the cruelty that humans can inflict upon one another. The despots of history have Impaled

Do not dismantle
the patriarchy.

Tearing apart a building
brick by brick from the
top down leaves a
foundation in its wake.

Do not smash it
or burn it
or leave behind
remnants of rubble,
ashes from which

Starve rapacious
and predatory roots
from the resources

Free the soil
from toxins

Churn the earth,

and let it rest.

A year of jubilee.

Whittle the wood
into a thing of
beauty that tells
the narrative of
a history transformed
but not forgotten.
